OMTI offers a wide variety of non-accredited courses which are all free of charge at the moment. 

They are free to all people no matter where you live, your age or financial position.

Please note that our leisure courses (Digital Photography, Photoshop Elements, Video Editing and Introduction to Web Design) now carry a refundable £20 deposit Payable on the first lesson.  This deposit is refunded on completion of at least 80% of the course and all paperwork is completed.  Failure to fulfil these requirements will result in the loss of the deposit.

Using Windows 7

Microsoft's latest and greatest operating system which it taking all the plaudits from the press and public alike.  It is well deserved as it is a quick and stable operating system.  Although it builds on Vista, it is so much better.  On this course you will find out how it works, what new and whats so goos about it.

The course lasts 3 weeks.

Excel VBA

A short 3 week taster on how to write VBA code for Excel.  Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is coding that is used to enhance, simplify or automate processes in Excel.  A recorded Macro is VBA, but it is created for you automatically by the recording wizard.  We will show you how to create some simple code yourself.

The course lasts 3 weeks.

PC Maintenance

In this course you will learn how to look after your PC to make sure its in tip top condition and you aren't leaving yourself open to threats.  You will cover IT security, Virus's, disk scanning, defragmenting, and upgrading your PC.

The course will last for 6 weeks

Social Networking

This course takes you through the ever more popular social networking side of computing.  You will learn about instant messaging, and using facebook, 2 of the most popular applications around today.

Practical IT

A 10 week course which covers the things you might do with a PC everyday.  Things like letter writing, browsing the internet, sending Emails, online comerce and more.

Introduction to computers

This is a short course aimed at complete beginners who haven't used a computer before.  It starts off with how to use a mouse and keyboard, create letter in Word, save it and print it.

This course lasts 3 weeks

Introduction to Word Processing

In this course you will learn how to type into Microsoft Word, Print a document and save it.  You will learn formatting, tables, inserting pictures and much more.

It lasts 5 or 8 weeks

Introduction to Digital Photography

Aimed at Digital Photography beginners, you will learn about the parts of digital camera's, taking photos, the transfer to the pc, and basic editing.  Having completed this course you should understand digital cameras, be able to take a photo, transfer it to a pc, edit it to get it to a printable state and then print it.

This course lasts for 5 weeks.

Computers for Women

This is a course that covers a wide variety of computer subjects including the internet, email, using windows and more.  Taught by a Female tutor with women students in mind.

It last 10 weeks.

This course now carries a refundable £20 deposit payable on the first lesson.  This is refunded if you attend a minimum of 80% of the course and complete all paperwork

Photoshop Elements

Designed as a follow on course to the digital photography, this course is an imtemediate course that just deals with more advanced editing of photos. Its not really about editing a photo so it can be printed, its about making creations. 

This course lasts for 6 or 8 weeks.

This course now carries a refundable £20 deposit payable on the first lesson.  This is refunded if you attend a minimum of 80% of the course and complete all paperwork.

Prep for ECDL

The ECDL is a long and sometimes difficult course and you need a fair degree of knowledge before you start it, its definitely not for beginners!

This course is designed for those who would like to move on from the basics and for those who don't feel ready for an ECDL just yet.  You don't have to move onto the ECDL if you dont want to.

It will introduce you to the7 subject of the ECDL.  You wont go through the whole ECDL of course but you will have a look at each package so it wont be alien to you if you move onto the ECDL later.

This course will last 10 weeks

Making a Poster

You will use Microsoft Publisher to create a few different kinds of posters and Greetings cards. 

This course will last for 3 or 5 weeks.

Managing Files and Folders

Ever lost a file or saved something an can't find it later?

Then this course is for you.  This course will help you create folder structure in the correct manner, as well as help you to retrieve lost files, folders and images.  You will never lose anything again when you have completed this course! 

This course will last for 3 weeks or 4 weeks

Internet and Email

One of our most popular course, it covers using and searching the internet and making the most of it whilst protecting yourself from threats. Then you will learn how to send emails and then reply and forward them.  You will also learn about attaching documents.

This course will last for 6 or 8 weeks.

Excel

OMTI is delivering this excel course on its own for the first time. It is a beginners course and will start off at the beginning. You will learn about cell referencing, mathematical functions, multiple spreadsheets, format and much more. 

This course will last for 4 or 8 weeks.

Video Editing

A beginners course to video editing. Using Pinnacle Studio you will capture footage, cut the footage, add music, add titles, add sound effects and burn your master piece out to DVD. 

This course lasts 6 weeks.

Making a Newsletter

This course will allow you to create a simple newsletter using Microsoft Publisher. You will create a 4 page A5 newsletter and print it out. 

This course lasts 4 weeks.

PowerPoint

OMTI has only delivered PowerPoint as part of the ECDL up to now, but not everyone wants to go through the ECDL just so they can use it.  So we have created this course as an introduction to PowerPoint following a similar path as the ECDL but not to the same depth. 

You might want to go on this course as preperation for the ECDL!

This course lasts 5 weeks

Databases

Previously only available as part of the ECDL OMTI now offers databases for the first time as a stand-alone course.  Lasting 6 weeks it will take you from the basics of setting up a database, to extracting the information you need from the database.  This includes tables, forms, reports, and querying the database.

Again this is ideal preparation for the ECDL

Introduction to Web Design using Dreamweaver

A new course to OMTI aimed at beginners.  Here you will learn how to create a website from scratch.  You will insert text, changing font colours and sizes, insert pictures, tables.  Then you will make a number of pages with hyperlinks to create a fully working website.  You will also create a working contact us web form.  We will then host your site on the internet.

You will use software based creation tools as well as viewing and creating the source code yourself.  The software used at the moment is Adobe Dreamweaver CS4.

The course lasts 10 weeks
